Children across Bassetlaw can get stuck into hands-on science activities for free this week, with events running from Monday 16 February to Friday 20 February as part of the Nottinghamshire Festival of Science and Curiosity.
The Bridge Skills Hub in Worksop is hosting activities alongside Bassetlaw Museum in Retford and Harworth and Bircotes Town Hall. Events include an inflatable planetarium show called Stories in the Stars, making lava lamps, augmented-reality dodgeball, and learning about cyber security through retro computer games.
Other sessions cover fusion power, engineering challenges, and the science behind recycling. Some activities are drop-in, while others need booking in advance.
Cllr Steve Scotthorne, the council's Cabinet Member for Identity and Place, said the festival gives families a chance to explore science outside the classroom and inspire younger generations.
Megan Shore, Programme Manager at Ignite!, which is organising the events, said: "By taking science out of the lab and into local venues, we're giving children the chance to explore, experiment and have fun."
The council has been supported by organisations including UKAEA, South Yorkshire Police, universities, and local employers. For more information and to book activities, visit nottsfosac.co.uk/events
