A Worksop girls' football team has secured nearly £1,000 in council funding to kit out its young squad for the colder months ahead.

SJR Worksop U13s has received a Councillor Community Grant of £950 from Bassetlaw District Council Ward Members Cllr John Shephard and Cllr Josie Potts. The money will go towards new winter coats and tracksuits for the 13-strong squad.

The grant targets a real problem for families involved in grassroots football. Winter training and matchdays can be costly when players need proper kit to stay warm. By providing the coats and tracksuits, the club hopes to ease the financial burden on parents and keep more young girls engaged in the sport throughout the year.

Claire Brown, Women's Director at SJR Worksop U13s, said the kit would make training more comfortable during the colder months and help the team stay focused regardless of the weather.

The U13s train on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6pm to 7pm and play matches on Saturday mornings at Manton Sports and Social Club. They compete in Sheffield and Hallamshire Girls Division 2.

SJR Worksop, founded in 1984, now runs junior sides from U7s upwards, an academy section, and adult teams. Anyone interested in joining should visit sjrworksopfc.com.
