Amateur theatre company Lindrick Players will continue entertaining Bassetlaw audiences into 2026 after securing a £1,220 pooled grant from seven Bassetlaw District Councillors, the group has announced.
The funding will pay for essential safety improvements to the company's sound and lighting booth, allowing Lindrick Players to bring in a qualified structural engineer to assess and certify the equipment ahead of this year's productions.
'Safety is at the heart of everything we do'
“We are extremely grateful for this grant, which will allow us to bring in a structural engineer to assess and certify our equipment ahead of this year's productions and those in the future.
“Safety is at the heart of everything we do, both for our members and our audiences, and this support ensures we can continue delivering high-quality, community theatre with confidence. Investing in this vital work helps safeguard our group for years to come, and we truly appreciate the backing for local arts.”
— Sam Caudwell, Secretary of Lindrick Players
Seven councillors contributed
Because the funding comes from Bassetlaw District Council's Councillor Grants Scheme – a small annual discretionary budget each councillor can award to community projects in their ward – the Lindrick Players grant was assembled by seven members pooling part of their allocations:
- Cllr Robin Carrington-Wilde – Ward Member for Carlton
- Cllr David Pidwell – Ward Member for Carlton
- Cllr Steve Scotthorne – Ward Member for Carlton
- Cllr Gill Freeman – Ward Member for Langold
- Cllr Tony Eaton – Ward Member for Worksop South
- Cllr Susan Shaw – Ward Member for East Retford East
- Cllr Graham Oxby – Ward Member for East Retford North
“Alongside my fellow councillors, I'm proud to support the Lindrick Players through this grant funding. The group plays an important role in our community, delivering high-quality performances throughout the year, and it's vital that they can continue to do so safely.
“By enabling the hire of a qualified structural engineer to assess the sound and lighting booth, we're helping ensure that their productions remain professional, safe and enjoyable for everyone involved.”
— Cllr Robin Carrington-Wilde, speaking on behalf of the councillors who contributed
Entertaining Bassetlaw since 1971
Lindrick Players has been entertaining Bassetlaw audiences since 1971. Based in Carlton-in-Lindrick, the group stages around ten performances a year, including three full productions in January, May and September. Its aim is to provide accessible, high-quality theatre for the local community, with affordable ticket prices and inclusive membership fees.
For upcoming show dates and ticket information, Lindrick Players can be found on Facebook.
About the councillor grants scheme
Every Bassetlaw District Councillor is allocated a small annual budget which they can award at their own discretion to community projects in their ward. The scheme has funded everything from accessibility upgrades at Clarborough Parish Pastures to local sports and heritage work across the district. Community groups can approach their ward councillor directly to discuss potential grant applications.
