Retford Musical Theatre Company is getting a facelift thanks to £1,150 in funding from local councillors. The money will pay for improvements to the entrance hall and main performance space at the group's rehearsal venue.

The entrance hall will be converted into a waiting area for auditions, extra rehearsal space, and a quiet zone where performers can prepare without disturbing the main hall. New portable speakers and radio microphones will be installed, along with mirrors and replacement fire doors to meet safety standards.

Jane Shelley, the group's fundraising secretary, said the funding will help attract more people and make the venue feel more welcoming. "Everyone in our company gives countless hours of dedication to bringing our performances to life, which makes this grant all the more meaningful," she said.

The grant comes from a scheme where each Bassetlaw councillor receives an annual budget to support community projects in their ward. Seven councillors from East Retford contributed to this award.

Retford Musical Theatre Company, originally founded as Retford Operatic Society in 1920, stages three shows a year and welcomes members aged eight and above. The youth group The MOB also rehearses there. For more information, visit retfordmusicaltheatrecompany.org.
