UPDATE: Nottinghamshire Police have confirmed that Matthew Martin, the 38-year-old from Gateford, Worksop, who had been reported missing since Sunday 5 April 2026, has now been found safe and well.
Officers issued a short statement thanking everyone who shared the original appeal and who kept an eye out for Matthew over the last nine days.
Community helped spread the word
The appeal for information about Matthew was shared widely across Worksop, Retford and the wider Bassetlaw area after his family described his disappearance as completely out of character. Residents shared photographs on social media, checked CCTV and dashcam footage, and kept watch around the Gateford area where he was last seen at around 6:40pm on Sunday 5 April.
Worksop Wire was contacted directly by someone close to Matthew in the hours before his family's appeal was picked up by the wider press, and we are pleased to be able to share this positive update.
Thank you
Thank you to every reader who shared the original appeal, spoke to neighbours, reviewed doorbell camera footage, or passed the information on. Appeals like this work because local communities take them seriously, and Worksop has shown once again that it looks out for its own.
Nottinghamshire Police have asked that, out of respect for Matthew and his family, people do not speculate publicly about the circumstances surrounding his disappearance. The force has confirmed that no further information will be released.
