A 22-year-old Worksop man has been jailed for three years after a violent and degrading attack on a young woman.

Kobi Shaw blocked his victim's car before using a metal bar to prise open the vehicle window. He then dragged her from the car and across the ground before strangling her and slapping her face.

During the assault, Shaw used degrading language towards the woman. The attack was described by the sentencing judge as one of the most disturbing cases of domestic violence he had seen.

Judge Michael Auty KC, sentencing at Nottingham Crown Court, told Shaw his behaviour was "aggressive, petulant and vicious" before handing down a three-year prison sentence.

In addition to the custodial sentence, Shaw was given a driving ban and a 10-year restraining order preventing him from contacting or approaching the victim.

The case highlights the serious approach courts are taking towards domestic violence offences in the Bassetlaw area, with judges prepared to impose significant prison terms for attacks of this nature.
