Hospital staff are preparing for a busy early May Bank Holiday weekend and want local people to help spread demand across services.

The holiday falls on Monday 4 May. Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Bassetlaw Hospital and Montagu Hospital, is encouraging residents to plan ahead now.

Dr Nick Mallaband, Acting Executive Medical Director, said: "Bank Holidays can be especially busy for the NHS. If you take time now to check you've got enough of your regular medications, know which local services are open, and understand where to go if you need help, you'll be doing your bit to help keep emergency care free for those with urgent and life-threatening issues."

The Trust suggests checking you have enough repeat medication to last the long weekend. For minor problems like coughs, colds, sore throats or rashes, use a local pharmacy for advice. For urgent medical help that's not an emergency, call NHS 111 or use the service online. Emergency departments will operate 24/7 as usual and should be used only for serious or life-threatening issues.
