Householders across Bassetlaw can recycle more items from today as the district joins a national 'Simpler Recycling' scheme.
The expanded blue bin scheme means you can now add plastic trays (like toothpaste tubes), clean foil and metal food trays, and cartons to your regular recycling. These join existing items such as plastic bottles, paper, cardboard, tins, and cans.
The change is part of a government push to make recycling the same across England, cutting down confusion about what goes where. Bassetlaw District Council says it will reduce waste sent to incinerators or landfill sites.
Alongside the new items, the council is introducing separate glass collection every six weeks. Residents will receive a letter soon with their collection dates.
The council has invested in new glass bins, extra collection vehicles, and improved infrastructure to handle the changes. A new mobile app will launch shortly, showing residents their bin collection days, exactly what can be recycled locally, and updates on any collection disruptions.
