Worksop Town lost 2-1 to Buxton FC on Easter Monday despite efforts from the home crowd at the Windsor Foodservice Stadium. Captain Connor Kirby opened the scoring for Buxton in the 22nd minute, before Max Bardell doubled the visitors' lead from the penalty spot in the 56th.
The Tigers made changes to the side that had drawn with Alfreton two days earlier, bringing in Aaron Martin and Hamza Bencherif. Aleks Starcenko tested the Buxton goalkeeper early on with a long-range effort, while Oli Greaves was denied by good defending and a fine save in the second half.
Martin's introduction from the bench in the 60th minute made an immediate impact. The striker combined well with Greaves on the left wing but saw an effort go just wide. In the dying moments, Martin did get on the scoresheet, heading home a consolation goal in the 90+5th minute from a Szhem Whyte-Hall throw-in.
Despite the defeat, there were positives to take. Martin's late arrival energised the team, and the squad showed fight even when facing a two-goal deficit. The result sets up a trip to Spennymoor Town next Saturday as the Tigers look to bounce back in their penultimate away game of the season.
Attendance: 875. Man of the Match: Aaron Martin.
