Maura Stevenson, a Sister in critical care at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, is tackling Snowdon at night to watch the Welsh sunrise and raise funds for the hospital's charity. She is aiming to purchase a cold cot, which allows grieving families to spend more time with their babies following a loss.
The 26-year nursing veteran began her career at Bassetlaw Hospital as a healthcare assistant in 2000, before qualifying as a nurse and moving to critical care at DRI, where she has worked for over 18 years.
Maura's motivation is deeply personal. She lost her daughter Danica at just 24 hours old in 1995, and her son Sam five days later in 1998. The nursing support she received during those heartbreaking times inspired her to build a career in healthcare. "When I had my babies, I couldn't spend much time with them," she said. "I've always wished I'd had longer to hold them and share those moments."
Despite her losses, Maura also gave birth to her son Billy at Bassetlaw Hospital, who was born with serious health issues but is now a healthy 23-year-old thanks to the paediatric team's care.
Her initial fundraising target is £750, though a full cold cot costs around £1,500. To support her challenge, visit justgiving.com/crowdfunding/maura-stevenson
