Structural demolition is now underway at the Priory Centre on Bridge Street in Worksop, marking the most visible phase yet of the £20 million redevelopment project.

Enabling works began in February 2026, with contractors isolating building services, carrying out soft strip of internal areas, and erecting scaffolding around sections of the building earmarked for removal. The demolition phase is expected to be completed by May 2026.

Midlands-based contractor G F Tomlinson is leading the work. Two elevations near the access road and service ramp are being carefully hand-separated, while a high-reach demolition excavator is removing structural components from the rear sections.

The section being demolished formed part of the original Netherholme Shopping Centre, which dates back to the late 1960s. Once cleared, construction on a new building is expected to begin in May 2026.

The replacement facility will host a mix of leisure, entertainment, and dining options, including a climbing wall, indoor adventure play area, and a bowling alley.

Bassetlaw District Council purchased the site in 2023, with the majority of funding secured through the government's Levelling Up Fund. The project is being managed by Beyond Consult, with S80 acting as managing agent.

Shops within the Priory Centre remain open as normal throughout the development. Pedestrian access through the shopping centre is also being maintained, ensuring continued connectivity between the car park, Bridge Place, and Ryton Street.
