Worksop Town FC's league campaign ended in disappointment as they lost 2-1 away at Chorley. The Tigers battled hard but could not recover from two first-half goals.

Worksop had early chances through Lewis Witham, whose curled shot and powerful drive were both saved by Matthew Urwin. Chorley opened the scoring in the 36th minute when Harvey Smith turned home a long throw. The hosts doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time when Josh Wilde's clearance was blocked, and Max Wilson poked the ball past Lewis Forshaw.

The Tigers came out fighting in the second half. Witham won a penalty in the 54th minute after being dragged down in the box, and he converted the spot kick to give Worksop a glimmer of hope.

Forshaw made a fine save to deny Chorley a third, but Worksop's final chances went begging. Milan Lalkovic headed over an unmarked opportunity in the 74th minute and struck the post five minutes later.

The defeat closes out the league season, but Worksop still have unfinished business. Their final game of the campaign is a Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup tie at home to Worsborough Bridge AFC on Tuesday, as they bid to win the trophy for a third consecutive year.
